A Knoxville-area mother ended up with a story she will never forget after going into labor during the worst possible time: the Tennessee Volunteers season opener on September 5. Stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic caused by the game, the woman realized she was not going to make it to the hospital in time.
According to local reports, the mother took matters into her own hands and delivered her baby right there in the front seat of her car. With no medical staff nearby, she relied on instinct and calm nerves as other drivers sat helplessly in the gridlock around her. Emergency dispatchers stayed on the phone with her, guiding her through the process until paramedics could finally fight their way through the congestion to reach her.
Both mother and newborn were later transported to a nearby hospital, where they were reported to be in good condition. The baby, whose name has not been released, arrived healthy and apparently unfazed by the chaotic entrance into the world. The mother later joked that the child will always have a connection to Volunteers football, even if the timing was less than ideal.
The incident quickly became a talking point among local fans, many of whom noted that the traffic on game days in Knoxville is notoriously heavy. Some even suggested the university should consider adding a maternity ward to the stadium, just in case. For now, the family is resting at home, and the baby has already earned a nickname from family members: "Touchdown."
