From Trump to HSTikkyTokky, the manosphere has a daddy problem and it’s damaging us all

A troubling cultural trend is revealing a deep-seated psychological crisis among men. Experts point to a move towards aggressive hypermasculinity, often seen in online "manosphere" communities, as a frequent symptom of men hiding deep shame or fear rooted in childhood. This behavior is increasingly traced back to a damaged relationship with a father figure, a phenomenon termed the "father wound."

Parenting author Tanith Carey explains that when a boy’s need for validation, affection, and guidance from his dad goes unmet, it can create a lasting void. This foundational wound often manifests in adulthood as a compulsive drive to prove one's masculinity through dominance, emotional suppression, and hostility toward perceived weakness—traits glorified in some fringe online spaces. The resulting ideology not only harms the men trapped in this cycle but also damages their relationships and broader society by reinforcing regressive and harmful stereotypes.

The path to healing, however, is accessible. Acknowledging the pain is the critical first step. Therapy can provide a safe space to process these childhood experiences and dismantle the defensive persona built around them. Furthermore, seeking out healthy male mentors and building communities based on mutual support, rather than antagonism, can help rewrite internalized scripts. By addressing this core wound, men can build a healthier, more integrated identity—one defined not by opposition or domination, but by genuine strength and emotional resilience.
