Father's Day: A Divorced Dad's Co-Parenting Journey

Father's Day: A Divorced Dad's Co-Parenting Journey

Six years ago, when his marriage ended, Vishal Gokani carried a quiet worry that followed him everywhere. He wondered how his young daughters would explain their family to friends at school. Would they feel awkward? Would they feel different? He feared the divorce might create a distance he could never close.

But time has a way of reshaping fears into something unexpected. Today, on Father's Day, Gokani looks back on those early anxieties and sees how the journey of co-parenting actually brought him closer to his children. Instead of weakening their bond, the separation forced him to be more intentional. Every phone call, every weekend visit, every shared meal became a deliberate act of showing up.

Co-parenting, he says, is not about splitting time. It is about building a new kind of family rhythm. He learned to coordinate schedules, share school updates, and keep conversations focused on the kids. There were hard moments, of course. Drop-offs could feel heavy. Birthdays required careful planning. But over the years, the awkwardness faded.

His daughters, now older, no longer struggle to explain their family. They simply say they have two homes and two parents who love them. For Gokani, that is the real gift of Father's Day. Not the cards or the breakfast in bed, but the quiet knowledge that the bond he worried about losing is stronger than ever.
