4 top parenting tips for summer holidays

Summer holidays can feel like a marathon for parents. The routine of school runs and packed lunches disappears, replaced by endless days of "I'm bored" and constant snack requests. Stylist's motherhood editor Anna Whitehouse knows this struggle well. She has shared four practical ways to keep things running smoothly while sharing the load with your partner.

First, divide and conquer. Do not try to do everything together. One parent takes the morning shift while the other sleeps in or goes for a run. Then swap. This gives each person real downtime instead of just hovering in the background.

Second, stop keeping score. It is easy to get bitter when you feel like you are doing more. But keeping a mental tally of who changed more nappies or made more sandwiches will only cause arguments. Instead, talk about what each of you needs and adjust as you go.

Third, plan for solo time. Even thirty minutes alone can reset your patience. Let one parent take the kids to the park while the other stays home with a book. No guilt allowed.

Finally, lower your expectations. The perfect summer with crafts and baking every day is a myth. Some days will be messy and chaotic. That is fine. The goal is not a perfect holiday, it is getting through it together without losing your mind.
