According to recent reports, kids are ingesting too much Tylenol. They are also eating hand sanitizer and even houseplants. Yes, that is correct. These are not isolated pranks or rare accidents. Nurses and teachers say the cases are becoming more common, and the reasons vary from curiosity to stress to simple lack of supervision.

Hand sanitizer poses a particular risk because it often comes in scented formulas that smell like fruit or candy. A small bottle can contain enough alcohol to cause serious harm to a young child. Houseplants are another hidden danger. Some common varieties are toxic if chewed or swallowed, leading to mouth irritation, vomiting, or worse.

Pain relievers like Tylenol are also part of the problem. Children may take them thinking they are candy or may swallow several pills when they feel sick, not understanding the danger of an overdose. Acetaminophen, the active ingredient, can damage the liver in large amounts.
