To get the most realistic look at raising kiddos, we have to peel it all back to the late 1990s, when our children were just starting school. Back then, parenting felt less like a solo mission and more like a shared journey with the other families on our street and in our classrooms. We did not have group chats or parenting apps. We had the school pickup line, the bleachers at Saturday soccer, and the occasional frantic phone call to a mom who had already figured out the science fair project.

That shared experience was everything. When one kid struggled with reading, three other parents would quietly swap tips over coffee. When a teenager hit a rough patch, we all leaned in, not to fix it, but just to hold the line together. We learned that no one has the perfect answer, but everyone has a piece of it. We navigated the chaos of homework, the drama of middle school friendships, and the terrifying freedom of high school not as isolated islands, but as a messy, imperfect community.
